Adults
I will teach you the basics of sewing. I'll teach you how to thread a machine and get you started on your own projects.
You'll meet people who have got the same interest as you. Classes will be kept small so you can get the attention you need. Alternatively you can have one to one lessons. I will provide the patterns and some sewing accessories. Sewing machines can also be provided. If however you have your own machine, then please bring that.
The course will cover the following;
- Health and safefty of sewing.
- How to thread a sewing machine.
- The basics of the sewing machine.
- Start on an easy project (small repair, cushion, apron, bag, table runner etc).
- Learn to read patterns.
- Adjusting a pattern to fit your measurements.
- Working on a garment and completing it to a good standard.
We can go through everything at your pace and the lessons will be tailored to your requirements.
Kids Sewing
Research has shown that sewing can be an outlet for children's creativity. It will help them to develop as well as learning patience and discipline. At the same, time they are learning a new skill that will stay with them for years to come. From aged eight children can work with needles, under close supervision and learn how to operate a sewing machine. Kids classes are in 6 week blocks and lessons are 2 hours per week.
The course will cover the following;
- Hand sewn projects.
- Learning how to thread and use a sewing machine.
- Learning about different stitches.
- Using a pattern and cutting fabric.
- Learning to sew a garment.
Sewing machines will be provided but I like to encourage students to bring their own machine where possible. Parents and carers are welcome to stay during the lessons.
